ROXY

Roxy was one of a kind companion that we will never forget.  If it wasn't for her,   there would not be some of the great dogs there are today.

Roxy made an impact in our lives on June 6th 1994.  We got a call from the Humane Society that we had worked with for years placing dogs in homes, stating they had a red male that was going to be euthanized, if we did not pick him up by 2:30 that afternoon.  The dog owner had been arrested.

When we arrived at the Humane Society,  we were escorted to the kennel where the  male was.  The kennel next to him had this sweet loving black female that immediately ran to the gate for a pet.  I asked about her story.  They said she was also confiscated with the male.   They said she looked too scary  to be adopted, and that is why they didn't mention her to us.  We told them to release both of them to us, because we were taking  them home.

As we were leaving, the mother of the owner of the dogs showed up. She had got a call from the humane society telling her we were taking both dogs.   She was so happy that we were taking them that she gave us their ukc registration papers.  This was so nice of her considering what she was going through with her son.
When we got home, it was like the dogs had lived here forever.  They ran straight to the bedroom and jumped to the foot of the bed.  They were in heaven and so were we .

The next day we looked at their registration papers.  The male was from the old Tufftown lines.  He was an older male. Roxy's pedigree was beautiful.  She had dogs in her pedigree that we had admired for years.  She was three years old.  Well, we thought we would try to show her because she was just gorgeous.  Roxy obtained her Championship.  We were so excited.  Roxy was everything we wanted.  We thought she had so much to offer for the gene pool of the APBT's.  We bred her one time.  She produced four gorgeous puppies.  Two Grand Champions, one champion, and one who only needed 5 points to finish her championship, but due to a leg injury this prevented us from finishing her.

Roxy gave so much.  She was the dog that all the pee wee handlers used for showing in Junior showmanship. She was great with kids..  She loved everyone.  She had to kiss everyone she met.  She was a great ambassador for the breed.  Roxy represented our breed for 10 years at the American Family Expo.  Kids and adults just loved her.  Every year people would always ask for Roxy.

In Dec of 2003, Roxy was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Our hearts were broken. We didn't know how we could go on without her.   We knew she wouldn't be with us much longer.  We were not ready to give her up. So we opted to do treatment, which she responded well to.  She was back to her old self.
On July 3rd, 2004 Roxy celebrated her 13th Birthday.  I had to have an appendectomy that day.  When I got home that afternoon, she was so happy to see me.  It's like she knew it was her Birthday.  So we spent the whole weekend eating popcorn(which she loved) and watching movies.  She never left my side.  That was just the way Roxy was
.

Two weeks after Roxy's Birthday, she started coughing badly.  She had a few coughing episodes previously, but nothing to serious.  Roxy started to have a hard time breathing.  I was still recovering from my surgery but some how managed to get her into the truck to rush her to the hospital.  She passed away with her head on my lap on the way to the hospital.  We are still not over her loss and dont think we will ever be.  There is not a day that goes by that we dont think of her.  She has left us with some great memories and awesome offspring to remember her by
.

We are overwhelmed by the cards, flowers and emails we received from everyone.
Thank you so much

Roxy we love and miss you.
